Josh’s Bar Mitzvah | Connecticut Fine Art Photographer.

This was my first time shooting a Bar Mitzvah, and I can tell you it definitely won’t be my last! I had so much fun getting to know this family, and I am honored that I was asked to be a part of Josh’s day.

Josh’s Bar Mitzvah was held at Temple Sinai in Newington, Connecticut. The ceremony was traditional, festive, and joyous. Josh’s reading of the Torah went off without a hitch. I love how pride is radiating off of Mom Sherry and Dad Brad in these pictures: they are so pleased with everything Josh has done, and they cannot wait to see where he goes as he takes this first leap into manhood. The grounds were perfect for some formal— and some informal!— family shoots. Just look how everyone is beaming!

After the ceremony, Brad and Sherry hosted family and friends from near and far at the Wompanaug Golf Club in West Hartford. The tables were set elegantly with white flowers, soft tea lights, and personalized chocolates to commemorate Josh’s day. I loved looking through the pictures of Josh through the years that decorated the place card table. This reception’s touches were both lovely and thoughtful: a buffet for kids (complete with all types of chicken strips imaginable, fried macaroni and cheese, pretzel bites etc) and some quality liquors for the adults— and Shirley Temples too!

But, what is a Bar Mitzvah reception without the party? Everyone had a blast playing with the Photobooth, and some of the props just may have found their way onto the dance floor. Some of the young men donned different colored Borsalino hats— a fun nod to history and heritage. The chair lifts were energetic, fast paced, and successful: no one toppled! And, truly, what is a dance party without hula hoops and pool noodles?!

Finally, the lighting of the candles was moving. It’s easy to tell how much love Josh has for his friends and family— and how much love they have for him too. I are so so happy for you, Josh, and hope that the thirteenth candle brings you a lifetime of success. Here are a few of my favorites from his day.
