New England summers are for family, friends, and blissful moments spent seaside.

This beautiful quartet, made up of Mom Laura, Dad Steven, and their two precious daughters happened upon my page through the Madison Scene Instagram (make sure you give them a follow!). This Dixie family traveled up North for the season and summered in their own beach house in Madison, Connecticut. The beach in these images was their own private sandy oasis for the month: can you say casual, carefree luxury?! They decided to commemorate their trip of a lifetime with a family lifestyle session, and I was more than eager to oblige.

While this family’s outfits coordinate perfectly (shades of white and blue are also perfect for an ocean view session), I think my favorite detail from these portraits is this family’s bare feet! Who needs sand in your shoes when the ocean is mere steps from your front door?! Bare feet also makes sandy cuddling that much easier. I love just how cozy these portraits feel: this family is truly connected, and this summer vacation only brought them that much closer.

I would be remiss if I didn’t admit a sordid photographer fact: while this family has fantastic smiles, I cheated a little! Some of these smiles were not because of me, or even each other—but because a family member was participating in a beloved family prank of throwing a bag of… *let the imaginations run wild* during the session. None of us could stop cracking up!

The girls also just had to get in some playtime in the water, even though they were wearing adorable matching white dresses! These sisters obviously have a special bond, and I hope they will treasure the images of them holding hands, supporting each other in the cold waves, for generations to come.
