I have been photographing Katrina and Ricky since I pretty much opened up ‘shop’. They have been with me since year one. I’ve been blessed to photograph both their babies ( Does anyone remember Arlow’s birth blog?!) and am SO happy they came to me for their 5 year anniversary photos. Their wedding story made this shoot even more special…

May 25, 2013 was forecasted to be a perfect late spring day in Shaftsbury, Vermont, where Ricky and Katrina were to be married at Katrina’s family’s beautifully refurbished barn home. Until… a snow/rainstorm came out of nowhere and drenched the property! What should have been a formal outdoor wedding with 120 guests from all over the country turned into a scramble to buy hoodies and rainboots. The ceremony was delayed until the 26th due to the weather conditions, but it was a day no one ever forgot. It down poured and left some unhappy memories to their day, as well as a disappointment in their photos which haunted Katrina for years to come.  Fast forward 5 years later…. this gorgeous couple wanted to take some time to recreate that ‘beautifully’ stressful day, but with a different outcome. This session celebrated five years of successful marriage: these two have 3 dogs, 2 young children, and recently opened up their own tattoo shop.http://paintedsoultattoo.com/ (Ricky did my first one!) Katrina even slipped back into her wedding dress… and it was too big, which I’m pretty sure any Mom wants to be at that point 2 kids later. Slay, girlfriend, slay.  I also might be a little obsessed with her birdcage headpiece.

This anniversary session also might have some of my favorite details of all time. 5 years ago, Katrina and Ricky gave out customized bottles of Jones Soda as wedding favors: and so they took out two bottles and toasted each other! The images where they are feeding each other Nora’s Cupcakes are so sweet, goofy… and perhaps just a touch sexy. We headed to their ‘special spot’ in Middletown, and managed the shoot of all shoots in an old abandoned water pump house.  I had to pry myself away from my computer for these, as I found myself sitting at my computer at unruly hours.

I usually like to close out these blogs with some of my own commentary, but I really think Katrina said it best. She wrote to me and said that this session was a wonderful reminder of why they got married in the first place: that “beneath our hectic busy lives, we will always have each other.” The love that they have for one another speaks for itself, and it shines through gorgeously in these images. Happy 5 years, Katrina and Ricky, and here’s to love, laughter and happily ever after!

  1. Ink, Birdcage Veil, Converse, Violet hair… This couple has some series style and their love shines though.

  2. I love all the feelings on the day, such an intimate way to celebrate their love! The fact that their body tells a story is just so beautiful! I love the variety of images that you provide your clients with!
